The Christmas season in Victoria is a magical and beautiful time of the year, celebrated with lights and events throughout the city. We've collected some of the upcoming holiday events for you to explore, including parades, markets, concerts, movies and tours. Don't forget to pop into local coffee shops and restaurants as well and ask about their Christmas specials.
Christmas In Old Town
Take in the sights and sounds of Christmas long ago. Visit the wood-cobbled streets lined with festive garlands and see the shops decked with seasonal finery.
Annual Festival of Trees
The Victoria Festival of Trees, held exclusively at The Bay Centre this year, has become a cherished holiday tradition and the unofficial kick-off to the holiday season in the city. Join us for the 26th anniversary event, vote for your favourite tree, and support kids from your community who need the support and care only BC Children's Hospital can provide. There are over 80 trees to view on levels 2 and 3.
This event brings together professional and amateur bakers from across Vancouver Island and highlights their creativity, while supporting the work of Habitat Victoria. Last year more than $50,000 was raised! 100% of these donations will help build a home for a family living in need of a safe, decent place to live.
Nautical Wreath Workshop
Get ready for the holidays, while learning a thing or two about knots, at the Maritime Museum of British Columbia’s Nautical Wreath Workshop! From 1 to 4pm, our workshop leader will guide you through the process of transitioning a single piece of rope into a beautiful holiday wreath. All supplies are provided and your ticket includes admission to the Maritime Museum of BC (valid for 24 hours). Note: This workshop is limited to a maximum of 10 participants. We will contact you 24 hours before the workshop, should it be cancelled. A full refund will be issued, if the workshop does not run.
Christmas At The Market
Join us for Christmas at the Market! We'll have everything you need for under the tree, and on the table! We'll have lots of local artisans selling their goods, plus the delicious food at our permanent vendors! Santa will be visiting the Market on December 2nd, 9th and 16th from 12-3pm. A free Gingerbread decorating station will be available on December 2nd, 9th, & 16th from 12pm - 3pm A Gift Wrapping Station will be set up December 2nd, 9th, 16th, & 23rd from 11am - 3pm. Gift wrapping will be by donation to the SPCA. Come down for a stroll and enjoy the festive decor, delicious food, and amazing Christmas shopping!

Begin your Christmas Season in Victoria with the magical Island Farms Santa’s Light Parade at 4:45pm! Floats and bands, entertainment and lots of fun for the entire family! Join us afterwards at Centennial Square for refreshments from Island Farms and witness SANTA OFFICIALLY DECLARE CHRISTMAS IN VICTORIA OPEN! Make sure to bring your donation for the Mustard Seed Food Bank!
Christmas Craft Beer Show
The best thing about beer is that it can be enjoyed – or celebrated – any time of the year. This event will allow the multitude of fantastic local micro-breweries to gather together to display their seasonal products as well as their brewery favourites to both beer lovers and beverage professionals ahead of the holiday season.
Christmas Tree Village

Experience the magic of the holidays at our Fourth Annual Christmas Tree Village. Local businesses, community groups and non-profit organizations come together to transform the Recreation Centre Atrium and the Archie Browning Sports Centre into Holiday heavens teeming with twinkling lights and decorations for all tastes. At 6:30pm on Friday December 1, join us for a community carol singing extravaganza to celebrate the opening of the Village. Musicians will lead this all-ages event in the Atrium of the Recreation Centre surrounded by the newly decorated trees. This is also the first day of our holiday food drive so please don’t forget to bring along a non-perishable food item or two for our hamper and vote for your favorite tree online.
Winspear Festival of Trees
The Winspear Festival of Trees will be open to the public from December 1 – January 2. Visit the Centre to cast a vote for your favourite tree. With more than 20 beautiful and unique Christmas trees decorated by local businesses and community groups it will be hard to choose just one!
The Magic of Christmas At The Butchart Gardens
Christmas lights, holiday wreaths, carollers, ice skating, festive dining — it’s an exciting time at The Gardens. In fact, there’s so much happening from December 1st through January 6th, we refer to it as the "Magic of Christmas" season. Enjoy the traditions of the season with our 'Twelve Days of Christmas' displays placed throughout The Gardens. Sing the song as you walk along.
A Not So Silent Night
Bring your family and friends to the Hotel Grand Pacific during the month of December for a wide range of activities including Christmas Cocoa, Brunch, Stories, Contests, and more. All proceeds will support the Children’s Foundation of Vancouver Island.
Horse-Drawn Trolley Rides
Every weekend, horse-drawn trolleys will circulate through downtown making it easy to take in all of the sights and sounds of the holidays. The trolleys are free, compliments of the DVBA, and are a unique way to tour the downtown or take a scenic break while you rest your weary feet.
Christmas In Old Victoria
Enjoy the warm-hearted and sometimes humourous stories of how Christmas was celebrated in Victoria during the Victorian era on a walk through our historical city. A First Nations legend, Christmas Day brawls at Fort Victoria, a touching Gold Rush tale, Christmas store decorations and an amusing memory from Emily Carr’s childhood are featured. Many indoor locations are included.
Annual Truck Light Convoy and Food Drive
This family-friendly event brings 80 decorated trucks showcasing their festive spirit along a 35-km route beginning at Ogden Point at 5:45pm. The convoy wraps up at the Western Speedway around 8:30pm. Those wanting to give back and donate non-perishable food can drop off donations at designated collection spots along the route the night of the event. A number of donation locations are set up at local businesses for two weeks prior to the parade to help collect as much as possible.
Esquimalt Celebration of Lights
Put on your winter woollies and join us for the Celebration of Lights parade, Esquimalt plaza light-up, visit from Santa, entertainment, and refreshments. This free event is always a huge success for people of all ages. At 5:00 pm the parade begins at Canteen Road, and proceeds along Esquimalt Road to the Arena where the Celebration of Lights family fun continues.
Miracle On Broad Street
Stop by Miracle on Broad Street, an annual 12 hour radio-thon hosted by CFAX 1070 Radio. Join us for a day of Miracles, hearing stories of those touched by CFAX Santas Anonymous over 38 years, entertainment throughout the day by local artists, and collecting donations to purchase the groceries for over 1,500 families this Christmas.
Holiday Celebration Lunch
Join us for the annual Holiday Celebration Lunch. Enjoy a traditional turkey dinner without having to lift a finger. This catered event means that all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the delicious food and holiday themed entertainment. Lunch is served at noon and the event should run approximately 1.5 hours. Seats are limited and pre-registration is required. Registration cut off is Dec 6th at 2 p.m. so register early to guarantee a seat.
The first Tuba Christmas was in 1974 in New York City. Now, more than 40 years later, Victoria is among the 200+ cities worldwide that participate in this iconic event. Musicians come from all over BC and the Pacific Northwest to play holiday favourites on their tubas. It only happens once a year. Don’t miss it!
Naden Band Christmas
Join in the fun and excitement as 35 professional musicians take to the stage to entertain and get you into the holiday spirit. The Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy presents the 39th annual Christmas concert in support of The Salvation Army Toy Drive. The festive musical program will include original works and holiday favourites for the entire family.
Holiday Sit-in Movie
Too cold for a drive-in movie? No problem! This year we are holding our holiday movie in the Jubilee Hall on a giant screen. Bring your cushions and blankets and get cozy on the floor with your friends to enjoy the holiday classics Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman. A concession will be available for treats starting at 6 p.m. No registration required. Space is limited so make sure to come early to get your spot.
Skate with Santa
Santa is coming to the Archie Browning Sports Centre! Join Santa and special guests on the ice for games and fun! The Esquimalt Lions’ Club will be providing hot chocolate and hot dogs for skaters (one per person while quantities last). Participants are also encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for to be donated to the Rainbow Kitchen.
